Data Destruction

Data destruction is the process of erasing data from tapes, hard drives, and other electronic media to render it completely unreadable and prevent access or use for unauthorised purposes. When data is deleted, the operating system or application that created it no longer has easy access to it. However, simply deleting a file is insufficient; data destruction software must be used to overwrite available space or blocks with random data until it is deemed irretrievable. Data can also be destroyed by degaussing, which removes data from magnetic storage tapes and disc drives by changing the magnetic field. This method has the drawback that the person wishing to destroy the data must be aware of the specific degaussing strength needed for each tape type and drive. Tape, optical media and hard disc drives can all be physically damaged and destroyed using a mechanical tool called a shredder. Unlike data sanitisation, data destruction does not include verification. The data destruction method has yet to be proven to remove the targeted information. The amount of data that remains and how easily it can be accessed is determined by the media and data destruction methods used. Unverified data destruction exposes your data in both cases. The level of risk you take should be determined by the value or confidentiality of your data and the level of data protection required by your industry regulations.Certificates of Data Destruction are also provided for Bulk Hard Drive Shredding, Bulk Data Erasure or Witnessed Destruction. EZ Waste Recycling uses modern, high-capacity hard drive shredders to destroy all data-bearing media completely. It uses commercial and proprietary software to erase hard drives which are secure to be reused.
